New Year Starts Off Breezy Warm -
The new year rings in with continued beautiful weather in South Florida. A weak cold front moved through overnight, but winds are quickly veering around to the Northeast modifying the air mass right away. The first several days of 2009 look to remain fairly mild for the first week of January. New Years Eve day was packed up and down the Florida east coast under full sun and mild temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s. It looked like a early spring break beach day rather than the last day of December. This should continue into today and into the first weekend of 2009. Rain chances will remain low to nil as dry air will hold in place through the next several days. Only a slight possibility of a shower moving onshore. The next decent precipitation chance might not be until early next week if the models pan out with a more organized system. So it will remain very dry with some slight fire weather worries as well into the weekend.
Last night in Time Square, over a million people waited in sub-freezing temperatures to see the ball drop at midnight. At the same time, people on Miami Beach, and other regional South Florida locations, enjoyed semi-mild temps in the upper 60’s, watching TV monitors at parties as the ball dropped in freezing New York City. It sure is good to be in South Florida on New Years Day!
Happy 2009!
