Two Weeks Post-Kidney Transplant Video Update

Well, here I am two weeks post-Kidney Transplant and feeling good. The last two weeks have had their good days and some sore days, but mostly good days. There is no pain, just soreness on my right lower side where the surgery was done. The only bothersome thing is some of the side affects from the very strong rejection drugs. They can be hard on the belly at times. I’m getting use to them a little, and the coming weeks and months, the doctors will be lowering the doses.
I have been fairly active walking around outside and three times a week trips to the doctors for weekly blood work. I have been working on some of the older websites and a new one for a business idea coming later this summer. Speaking of summer, I’m really looking forward to being able to travel once again without having to make plans for treatments. I’m free to roam like I use to and just need to make sure I always have my meds with me. I plan to return to chasing like so many years in the past, including the upcoming 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season which begins in about 5 weeks. I can drive in about two weeks as I’m healing fast, and let me tell you, I need to get out of the house soon on my own without having someone drive me. It gets a little nuts after awhile.
So, trying to keep busy and also at the same time taking it easy to recovery. There is a High Risk for severe storms and tornadoes today over western Oklahoma and south-central Kansas. I will be arm-chasing today’s big weather event via radar and satellite imagery, and contacts with Storm Chasers out on the road in the target area. Anything to keep my mind busy, plus I love to watch storm events like this even if I can’t be there. More updates to coming as my recovery from Easter day Kidney Transplant.
Nine Days Post Kidney Transplant and Doing Great

Back home and getting adjusted to all my post-Kidney Transplant medications and trying to keep active. Still a little sore 9 days post-op, but my strength is coming back fast. I’m restricted from driving and any heavy activities for the first 4-6 weeks, so I can see myself getting a little stir crazy. I’ll try walking this evening for a hour or so and get outside for some fresh air in the cooler evening hours.
Yesterday was my first trip back to the hospital for my first post-op check up at home. I got to see several dozens other transplant patients doing their blood work as well and it’s a well organized system they have setup for patients. For the first month I have to go to the office to have blood work 3 times a week. Over the months this will be cut down to once a month. Results from Mondays labs were outstanding, and the new kidney is working great. All the numbers were where the surgeons wanted them to be and they say I’m doing really good and my body is showing no signs of rejection. This is great news and I hope it continues for a long time.
I’m on a high fluid diet to help keep my new kidney well hydrated. I have to drink at least 3 liters a day here in the beginning and this is tough I tell you. It’s going to take a little time to get use to taking in some much fluid, although this will be cut back as well over the 6-8 weeks. In three weeks I’m allowed to drive again and I’m really looking forward to that. All in all, I’m feeling and doing good and very grateful for my new kidney. I’m turning 35 next Wednesday and you couldn’t ask for a better gift.
Successful Kidney Transplant On Easter Day

A very sobering and emotional rollercoaster the last 72 hours. Sunrise Easter morning I got the call that I have been waiting for the last several years. They had a perfect kidney match and I had hours to get to Jackson Memorial in downtown Miami. Kersten and I quickly packed up and made the 2 hours drive down, which was nearly hassle free with little traffic and green light the whole way. I was a wreck, but happy too, and had so much racing through my head on the drive down. I was final going to get the chance to get my life back and move ahead on so many things I want to do.
We arrived at Jackson and ran into a little funny hassle with security. “Ah sir, it’s Sunday Easter. Are you sure your having a transplant today?” I told him yeah man, it’s a go, they have been blowing up my phone all morning. Once we got in it was very fast paced and the afternoon flew by right up to the time for surgery.
Needless to say, I’m doing well and recovery fast. I should go home by the end of the week. I will try to post more here in the coming days.

Wow, it’s been over a week since I gave any attention to my blog here at Weatherzine. I have been extremely busy, and the weather for the most part here in Florida has been very dead storm-wise. I did make my first big chase of 2009 last Thursday when I traveled up to the Florida panhandle and southern Alabama for the moderate risk. It tuned out to be a more squall line event, but it was great to be out on the road and I did get to see some hail and vivid lightning. So, it wasn’t a total bust and a nice first run of the season. I logged over 700 miles that day and it only excited me to chase in Tornado Alley once again which it’s typical to daily road miles like that. Well have to see how the Spring comes along.
Film school has also kept me busy in the last week as I have been working on my screenplay homework and developing my story. Class has been very interesting and I will be sharing a lot more with my film school adventures very soon with a brand new website. This new site will separate my film work and schooling from my daily storm chasing and weather updates on here. Actually, the site is completed and I have already started updating it with discussions on my screenwriting and cinematography classes, but waiting another few days before I post the web address. There I’ll be able to go into more details of my film projects without cluttering up this weather website and bothering all my weather followers.
Can’t believe it was 51F here this morning and tomorrow it only gets worst. Record lows into the lower 40’s well into South Florida forecasted, which I think is simply unacceptable and something needs to be done about it. LOL! You know it’s bad in April when you here, “The cold front continues to blast through Cuba.”. I guess I’ll be snug in the house tonight writing maybe with a fire for the last time this season. I’ll take advantage that I have a few fire logs left to burn. Thunderstorms in the forecast for this weekend, so more updates here on Weatherzine coming.
