South Florida TropicRain Percept Video Series – Part One

July 02, 2009 -Tranquil South Florida July tropical rains relax the mind on a hot summer day. Florida has seen a extremely rainy wet season since late May, and today was no different. After I rushed to get my lawn cut once again ahead of the afternoon rains, I cooled off with a Ice Coffee, and listened and watched the thunderstorm rains move in. It was very peaceful to just stop and listen to the rolling thunder and watch moderate rains fall over the lush green lawn and palm tree’s. Sometimes you just need to stop and enjoy your surroundings…Watch Video

Lake Okeechobee Florida Water Spout and Gustnadoes Video

June 23, 2009 -I filmed a severe thunderstorm complex moves over Lake Okeechobee, FL and produces a Water Spout with several Gustnadoes as well. A water spout developed on the leading edge of the gust front tucked in on the west side where there was still some decent inflow to the line of strong storms. As seen in the following video, there is a funnel cloud at cloud base, with a medium size circulation on the lake surface tracking southeast. Foreground of the water spout video, you see several Gustnadoes racing south. This video aired on The Weather Channel 6/23-24/09 and ABC’s Good Morning America 6/24/09…Watch Video

Gustnadoes Damaging Stright-Line Winds Pratt Kansas

June 15, 2009 -I was nowcasting for Jim Edds one again on Monday, and he was able to get in under the wall cloud a few times, but road network to the east kept him having to dive south of the storm. Once the storm reached just north of Pratt, KS, he tried one last time to get into the notch, but the gust front kept blasting in from the northwest. He did film some cool Gustnadoes crossing over the highway just west of Pratt and damaging straight-line winds that made it look more like hurricane conditions than Supercellular…Watch Video

Impressive Hail Shaft On Kansas Cyclic Tornadic Supercell

June 14, 2009 -The only impressive very isolated Supercell in Kansas yesterday was one tuff storm to kept up with for many Storm Chasers. Jim Edds was playing catch up for nearly the 6 hour lifespan of this cyclic Tornadic Supercell Thunderstorm. He did film some impressive hail shaft scenes, with a cool hail foot feature, but between road networks and the fast east motion of the storm, the 3 confirmed short-lived tornadoes were out of his reach only by 10 minutes. The storm developed in extreme eastern Colorado and tracked…Watch Video

Texas Panhandle Supercell Video Vortex2 Scans Storm

June 13, 2009 -One of my favorite places to chase Supercell thunderstorms is West Texas and the Panhandle region. Jim Edds on Saturday was chasing a lovely Supercell in the Texas Panhandle. The video sent in overnight to me was his latest HD video of severe storm captures of the day southwest of Pampa, TX. Jim is currently on his several weeks expedition in Tornado Alley. This Supercell showed strong signs of ration at many stages during it’s life span. Vortex 2 was also sampling this storm as seen in …Watch Video

Massive Supercell Thunderstorm East Of Pueblo Colorado

June 11, 2009 - Massive eastern Colorado Supercell thunderstorm over the High Plains east of Pueblo, CO. Once again, Storm Chaser Jim Edds FTP uploaded HD video to Weatherzine servers of the latest severe storms captured during his Tornado Alley 2009 expedition. This was a impressive Supercell, with rotating wall clouds, microburst structure, vivid lightning and very large hail from Thursday June 11, 2009. This severe storm not only was impressive in the field, it was a scary looking cell on Nexrad radar scans for several hours…Watch Video

Storm Chaser DashCam Video of Wyoming Tornado

June 05, 2009 - Here is another vantage point from my fellow Storm Chase partner Jim Edds, as he closes in on the June 5, 2009 Wyoming tornado. This is a view from Jim’s dash-cam as he and other Storm Chasers intercept the tornado. Listen as fellow chasers discuss over 2- meter Ham Radio as the close in on the impressive mature Wyoming tornado. Large hail was also encountered on this chase day….Watch Video

Storm Chaser Jim Edds Captures Wyoming Tornado Video

June 05, 2009 - Friday a Tornadic Supercell developed northeast of Cheyenne, WY, producing a vivid tornado. Fellow chase partner and friend, Storm Chaser Jim Edds filmed a few miles away during the second half of the tornado’s life. Outstanding video of it beginning to rope out with a dancing funnel backlit over the open High Plains. Jim fed this HD video in from the side of the highway over the 3G network. Great work Jim!…Watch Video

Classic Early Summer Florida Sea Breeze Lightning Storm

June 04, 2009 - I was out and about shooting another classic Florida sea breeze lightning storm Thursday evening. This storm develop where two outflow boundaries from earlier convection collided over the Glades and Okeechobee county line in the northwestern Lake Okeechobee waters region. It had beautiful and vivid lightning, with the surrounding sounds of birds, frogs and rolling thunder. It really set the mood for a typical early summer Florida interior thunderstorm. At times, it showed some interesting structure…Watch Video

Indian River Co Severe Florida Thunderstorm Structure

June 01, 2009 - I filmed a pulse severe thunderstorm warned cell from a distance, that was along the Indian River and Okeechobee county line about 4:45pm ET. The sea breeze boundary raced inland helping to set off the semi short-lived pulse severe thunderstorm. The storm at times on radar showed some very weak low-level rotation, but was extremely short-lived. However, the storm likely produced some small hail over the remote locations just east of Fort Drum, FL. Once the sharp boundary raced further inland, the storm lost all it’s forcing..Watch Video

Taylor Creek Florida Developing Strong Lightning Storm

May 28, 2009 - Thursday continued to be extremely busy with afternoon lightning storms over southern Florida. I was closely watching this developing strong thunderstorm that was forming along a gust front boundary and the east coast sea breeze. It developed several weak non-rotating wall clouds that kept getting undercut by moderate outflow winds from the southwest. The storm continued east into St Lucie County where it became a vivid lightning producer with small hail. It made for some interesting storm structure for a short-time. Watch Video

Severe Thunderstorm Video Over Lake Okeechobee Florida

May 26, 2009 - The east and west coast sea breeze boundaries converged over the western shores of Lake Okeechobee, helping to produce a line of severe thunderstorms. This line of storms tracked eastward over the lake, producing some impressive storm structure. Shelf clouds, strong straight-line winds, and heavy rains were the main weather associated with these strong storms. The Florida wet season 2009 is in full swing with daily afternoon storms like clock work now…. Read article / Watch Video

People Hit Ft Lauderdale Beaches Before Afternoon Storms

May 26, 2009 - I was out shooting video for The Weather Channel on Tuesday morning May 26, 2009, of beach goers trying to get in some sun and beach in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. This time of year as the wet season begins, the best time to hit the beach is before the afternoon lightning storms move in from the west. A few offshore morning convective showers over the Gulf stream were the only clouds in sight. Later in the afternoon, several severe thunderstorms moved in over metro Southeast, FL….. Boca Raton Florida Heavy Rains – TWC Video Package

May 22, 2009 - Thursday was yet another active day, especially in the morning across Southeastern Palm Beach County and Northeast Broward County rain-wise. I was on the road early shooting rain video for TWC, and by 8:30am, I was shooting heavy thunderstorm rains from Pompano Beach to Lighthouse Point northward to Boca Raton, Florida. Several inches of rain fell and some isolated locations picked up 3-4 inches, like in eastern Boca Raton along the I-95 corridor…. Non-Tropical Low Brings Heavy Rains To Florida

May 20, 2009 - The combination of a upper-level low centered over all of Florida, and a weak surface non-tropical low off the southwest Florida coast, has continued to bring heavy rains and gusty winds. On Tuesday I was out shooting video, as seen in the above video (also airing on The Weather Channel today), heavy rains fell across Southern Florida once again. Training showers and storms moved over the Okeechobee City region and Lake Okeechobee, where it has been extremely dry all Spring. Watch Video – Aired on The Weather Channel.

Florida Sea Breeze Convection Thunderstorm Time Lapse

May 14, 2009 - The east coast sea breeze boundary quickly rush inland today as the easterlies became much deeper. The boundary converged with the Lake Okeechobee breeze boundary. This set off moderate convection and several thunderstorms developed. Lightning associated with these storms started several new wildfires in Martin County, FL. I spent about 2 hours shooting the frames for the time lapse. At one point, a weak wall cloud developed out over Lake Okeechobee as a outflow boundary intercepted the storm out over the water. Florida Sea Breeze Microburst Thunderstorm Video Review

January 11, 2009 - This was a classic severe pulse storm that developed along the east coast sea breeze boundary in western St Lucie County, FL during the summer of 2004. As you will see in the above video, this was a well developed storm, with a impressive updraft region and heavy core. There was also a long-live rain foot region of the storm, showing the leading edge of the straight-line winds in the 50-60mph range. The video continues to show how impressive these little storms can get and the famous sea breeze boundary… Watch Video
